What gets me most isn’t so much how people in my generation may feel too powerless or helpless to fight for change, it’s when I see frequently how politically and intellectually apathetic they are because they really just do not give a shit about anything happening outside their tiny lives. It is a conscious choice to buy into the self-absorption and apathy that the article discusses. Just as it is to accept those feelings of powerlessness. It took me a painfully long time to realize that the only person who can make you feel powerless or helpless is you.
